Pacific Guardians Humanitarian Operations works with governments, civil society, humanitarian partners and local communities to improve visibility, access and operational support before, during and after disasters.
Our volunteers contribute practical capability where information is limited, access is difficult and local systems are under pressure.

WHAT YOU MIGHT SUPPORT
Rapid assessments
Support field assessments of damage, access, needs and local coping capacity.
Situation reporting
Help turn field information into clear, decision-ready operational reporting.
Liaison & coordination
Support engagement with communities, provincial authorities, NGOs and response partners.
Remote logistics
Assist with access planning, movement, communications and last-mile support.
Communications & connectivity
Help maintain reliable communications in difficult operating environments.
Preparedness & resilience
Support community preparedness, training and resilience initiatives before disasters occur.

Pacific Guardians is veteran-led and draws heavily on the discipline, teamwork, judgement and operational mindset developed through military service.
That experience shapes how we plan, communicate and operate in difficult environments — but our team is broader than the veteran community. We bring together veterans, emergency responders, humanitarian practitioners, technical specialists and other capable people who share the same standards of service, professionalism and practical action.
The common denominator is not background.
It is the ability to contribute when conditions are uncertain and the work matters.

We recruit field team members who can operate calmly, professionally and respectfully in remote and uncertain environments.
Essential Experience

Experience working in emergency, disaster, humanitarian, military, emergency services, remote operations or comparable high-pressure environments

Proven ability to operate safely and effectively in small teams

Experience working in remote, austere or resource-constrained settings

Ability to work respectfully with local communities, government officials and partner organisations

Good physical fitness for field tasks and travel in difficult environments

Confidence using common digital tools for data collection, mapping, reporting or coordination

Current passport and ability to travel internationally when required

Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive operational information

What volunteering with Pacific Guardians involves

Missions may occur at short notice - 48hrs to deploy.

Deployments may involve austere or remote environments.

Volunteers are expected to meet minimum conduct, safety, fitness and training standards.

Local leadership and community priorities come first.

Personal availability is respected; however deploying 1-2 times per year, plus regular individual and team training.

Deployments are typically 9-15 days duration.
We are building a highly capable operational roster of Australian, New Zealand, and Pacific Island based disaster responders.
Where we operate and respond
Our primary focus is isolated island communities across the Pacific, particularly; PNG, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Fiji with additional engagement across Australia, and other Pacific Island countries where there is a clear operational need and trusted local partnership.
